Thanking my lucky stars...

Updated: Feb 12, 2020

Running a business, marketing a brand or stimulating sales relies on, amongst other things, inspiration and creativity. Sometimes it's tough, the creative juices run dry and levels of anxiety and stress start to creep up.

I'm lucky, I live on the Norfolk coast. Creative blocks are inevitable. Nobody is immune, but I'm just a few minutes walk from beautiful sandy beaches, open countryside and fresh air. It's invigorating, liberating and stimulating, so when I hit the creative buffers, I just head for the beach (usually with the dogs).

For all the research (and Google is full of it) nobody really understands WHY the sea has such a positive impact on our wellbeing, happiness, creativity - and business performance. This fact should annoy me because, as a professional marketer, I like things to be logical, measurable and accountable. I'm not annoyed though, about this or anything else really. Even Brexit bemuses me more than annoys me now.

Maybe it's just because I live in a village by the sea. The sound of the waves gently lapping on the beach soothes me, the air I breathe nourishes me and the people I meet delight me. I should just thank my lucky stars (which incidentally are so much brighter by the coast). You really should try it sometime...
